Our History

The school’s founders, Kampala Community Church under the leadership of Pastor James Teira, recognized the importance of grounding young people in a christian faith-based education system that would prepare them not only for academic success but also for their roles as future leaders and compassionate members of society.

Founded in 2012, Light Africa Secondary School (LASS) began as an O’ Level day school. Over the years, we have grown into a mixed day and boarding school, offering both O’ and A’ Level education. Located in Masanafu Kinoonya Zone along Sentema Road, Rubaga Division, LASS continues to provide an excellent academic environment that is rooted in Christian values.

Christian Life

Spiritual Development: At LASS, faith formation is at the core of our learners’ life. Weekly chapel services, Bible studies, and prayer sessions create a nurturing environment for learners to deepen their faith and grow closer to God.

Character Development: We emphasize virtues such as integrity, compassion, humility, and service. Through character education, we empower our learners to live out their faith in practical ways, becoming positive role models in their communities.

Christian Leadership: Our leadership programs develop learners as servant leaders, equipped to influence their peers and community. Pastoral care and mentoring ensure that learners receive guidance and support in their spiritual and personal growth.

Clubs and Extracurricular Activities

In addition to academic excellence, LASS offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including:

  • Sports: Football, netball, volleyball, athletics
  • Clubs: Scripture Union, Edutech Club, Music, Dance, and Drama, Patriotism Club, Writers club, Educate Club

These activities help learners discover their talents, develop teamwork skills, and build lasting friendships.

Boarding Life: LASS offers separate, secure boarding facilities for boys and girls. Our dedicated matrons and wardens ensure the well-being of all boarding learners. A well-stocked sick bay with a trained nurse provides medical care for minor illnesses and injuries.

Balanced Nutrition: Our learners are provided with nutritious, balanced meals prepared by experienced caterers, ensuring they remain healthy and energized throughout the day.

LASS is led by Pastor James Teira, the school’s director and lead pastor of Kampala Community Church. Along with a dedicated board of governors and a team of experienced educators, our leadership ensures that LASS remains a nurturing and spiritually uplifting environment for all learners.
